      If you retweet someone's post by choosing the retweet button, you post the same tweet (as if that person sent it) out to your followers with a little mention that you ar...  more      I'm not sure how much help I will be, but here is a little explanation as I see it.

      If you retweet someone's post by choosing the retweet button, you post the same tweet (as if that person sent it) out to your followers with a little mention that you are the one who re-tweeted it. This seems to be a way to get yourself noticed by people that might be searching for that member.

      If you retweet by copying the message and posting directly with a "RT" in front of the originator's name, you are giving your followers more posts from you, and letting that person that you RT'd that you liked what they said. That person may follow you because of it. If they have a bunch of followers, this is another way to get your name in front of other members that don't follow you yet.

      Either way works, but I tend to see the second way be used more often by bloggers who are trying to keep numbers up.  less
